One of the hot topics in tech news at the moment is Facebook’s new video section. Rather than bow down to YouTube, and its owners Google, Facebook has decided that its users should enjoy video their way.
Video is likely to become the dominant format on Facebook in the coming years, and Facebook now wants to become a destination for rich content, and not just news and feeds on “what you’re friends are up to”. YouTube has of course played down the threat, and head of content, Robert Kyncl said it will be at least “a decade before [Facebook and YouTube] bump into each other”.
That said, earlier this week it revealed that the amount of time British users had spent watching Facebook’s video clips had risen by 60% over the previous 12 months. We’re sure Google is taking this seriously!
