To many, the Makerbot is an ‘entry-level 3D printer’, but its capabilities have been underrated for some time. The 5th generation Makerbot is 10 times faster than the original, meaning build volumes have been improved over 11%.
The new model is app and cloud enabled, meaning true-life objects can be made quickly and easily at the push of a button. The 100-micron layer resolution creates professional prototypes and complex models for presentations, and some of the results are mind-blowing. You can find many example models online, and though Makerbot was one of the first affordable 3D printers on the market, it shouldn’t be labelled an ‘entry level’ system anymore. It’s smart, compact and designed for small-scale models, but that doesn’t mean the results are below par!
With the Makerbot mobile app you can control the model from anywhere, so you could be making a prototype on the other side of the planet! We’re looking forward to the next generation, and it will be interesting to see what the developers at Makerbot come up with next.
